Daily Health Choices we Stand By

These simple, actionable habits promote better health and longevity.

Here’s what I live by and encourage for a balanced, fulfilling lifestyle.

Sunrise.png

Direct Sunlight

Getting early direct sunlight has numerous health benefits, particularly for regulating your body's natural rhythms and enhancing overall well-being.  Tips for Getting Early Sunlight:  Allow natural light to enter your eyes without sunglasses for optimal circadian signaling (but never look directly at the sun). Pair your sunlight exposure with a walk or light exercise for added health benefits.

Exercise

Exercise plays a vital role in enhancing your overall health and well-being. If you’re new to it, start with small steps and gradually build up. Aim to exercise during natural cortisol peaks, such as in the morning or while fasted, to optimize energy and performance. Choose activities you enjoy to stay motivated and consistent, and consider incorporating high-intensity interval training for maximum benefits.

prayer.png

Prayer

Prayer can be a healthy practice for both your mental and physical well-being, regardless of religious or spiritual affiliation. Praying to God is a deeply personal and spiritual practice that can provide comfort, guidance, and a sense of purpose. Prayer offers a range of health benefits that impact your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Foods to Avoid

Examples of substances to avoid include highly processed foods, seed oils, high-fructose corn syrup, trans fats, artificial colors like Red 40 and Yellow 5, preservatives, pesticides, herbicides, excessive alcohol, and chemicals such as BPA and phthalates. If you have questions about food labels or need guidance, consider booking a telehealth consultation for personalized advice.

sleep.png

Sleep

Establish a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. Minimize screen time at least 2 hours before sleep, or use blue-light blocking glasses if needed. Create an optimal sleep environment by keeping your room dark, quiet, and cool. Get early morning sunlight to regulate your circadian rhythm, and prioritize exercise in the morning or midday to promote better sleep. Avoid taking naps during the day, and consider supplements like magnesium and Lion's Mane which has been shown to improve sleep quality. Book a Telehealth to learn more.

Favorite Foods

Dr. Penton enjoys olive oil, coconut oil, grass-fed beef, pasture-raised dairy products, fresh-caught local fish, fresh avocado, and other seasonal fruits and vegetables including leafy greens. He values the benefits of eating locally sourced foods for health, community, and the environment.

Daily Blend

After a fasted morning workout, I recommend blending a recovery shake with grass-fed whey protein, collagen, creatine, fish oil (DHA and EPA), turmeric, vitamins D and K, frozen blueberries, banana, and coconut milk. This nutrient-rich combination supports muscle recovery, reduces inflammation, and replenishes essential nutrients. For added benefits, consider including probiotic and prebiotic powders, MCT oil, ashwagandha, ginger, cinnamon, or Himalayan pink salt. Book a telehealth visit to learn more about sourcing these premium ingredients and optimizing your recovery routine.

VO2 max.png

Longevity Assessment

Assessing optimal longevity involves a comprehensive evaluation of physical, mental, and social health, combined with lifestyle factors that influence aging and disease prevention. This process involves reviewing your medical history, conducting advanced laboratory tests (including inflammatory markers), performing physical assessments (such as grip strength, VO2 max testing, lean muscle mass, and bone density), and evaluating longevity-specific metrics like gut microbiome health. Regular monitoring of these indicators, along with targeted lifestyle adjustments, can enhance health outcomes and promote both lifespan and healthspan.

modalities.png

Future Modalities

Future modalities we plan to offer include sauna therapy, red light therapy, cold plunge immersion, deep tissue massage, PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) integration, VO2 max testing, and a hydration bed. These advanced wellness options are designed to optimize recovery, enhance performance, and promote overall health.
